No, you don’t need a referral to book an appointment, for either therapy or assessments; anyone is welcome to access psychology services privately.
However, if you would like to claim a Medicare rebate, you’ll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) and referral from your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician under the Better Access initiative. This plan allows you to claim a rebate for up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year.

Yes, I provide telehealth assessments and therapy for clients aged 12 and older. Telehealth offers a flexible and accessible way to receive support, and many clients find it just as effective as in-person sessions.

Great question. This is one I get asked often. The number of sessions depends on the type of assessment and each person’s individual needs.
For example, an Autism and ADHD assessment generally involves around five to six sessions, though this can vary depending on the pace and length of each appointment. The process typically includes:
An intake session to discuss background and goals
The MIGDAS-2 Autism Clinical Interview, which is highly in-depth and may take up to three shorter sessions (or can be completed in a single extended 2–2.5-hour session)
The DIVA-5 ADHD Clinical Interview
A feedback session, where we review the full report together
I always tailor the process to each client’s comfort and capacity, aiming to make it as efficient, supportive, and gentle as possible. Assessment can be a big step, and my goal is to ensure your needs are met and that you feel safe and understood throughout.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please try to give at least 48 hours’ notice by calling or texting 0481 117 516 or emailing jessfarago@pzpsychology.com.
If you provide less than 48 hours’ notice, a 50% cancellation fee will apply if the appointment time cannot be filled.
If you provide less than 24 hours’ notice, a full session fee will apply if the appointment time cannot be filled.
If you’re unable to attend in person, I’m always happy to switch your appointment to telehealth, even at short notice, so you can still receive support without losing your session time.

For therapy, I don’t provide ongoing sessions to siblings or other family members of my existing clients. However, I do offer occasional family or joint sessions (with the client’s consent) when it supports progress or strengthens understanding within the family system. I also provide parent-only sessions throughout the therapeutic process when working with children (12+) or adolescents.
For assessments, I’m happy to work with multiple members of the same family. This includes assessing siblings, parents, or other relatives, either separately or as part of a family-wide understanding of neurodivergence.
However, if I have completed an assessment for a client, I do not provide ongoing therapy for that same client’s family member or sibling after the assessment is finalised. I can, however, recommend and refer you to one of my wonderful neuroaffirming colleagues for ongoing therapeutic support.
